Patriot Viper V765 Gaming Keyboard Review
Mechanical keyboards continue to spread among personal computer users. The main popularity of the keyboard mechanics has vastly improved among gamers, for whom not only comfort during the game is significant, but other related features. In this review, I will talk about a relatively inexpensive mechanical keyboard with Kailh Red switches. I am talking about the Patriot Viper V765 model, which can be found on multiple sites with the lowest price as of this writing at $89. Interesting features of this keyboard are RGB backlighting, additional multimedia keys, macro recording, and splash protection.

Appearance
Patriot Viper V765 is a full-size gaming keyboard with dimensions of 466 x 40 x 203 mm and a weight of 1134 grams. The body of the Patriot Viper V765 gaming keyboard is made of aluminum with a matte finish. In combination with black plastic, the keyboard looks pretty streamlined compared to the others in the field. The end faces of the Patriot Viper V765 are made with chopped shapes, giving the keyboard a more aggressive appearance.
The manufacturer has implemented 109 control keys in the Patriot Viper V765, including additional multimedia functionality. Above the numeric keypad is a row of LEDs informing the user about the activity of the NumLock, CapsLock, and ScrlLock modes.
Additional media control keys in the Patriot Viper V765 are divided into two blocks. The left one includes track control and start/stop playback functionality, and the second block is a roller for controlling the playback volume.
The keyboard layout of the Patriot Viper V765 is made in a classic way, but even here, there are a couple of interesting points. The short Enter key and the large Space block with four dotted lines draw attention to themselves. The latter is present on the Space button to create a better RGB lighting rendering. The Patriot Viper V765 d-pad is located on a separate island, above which there is a significant free space to avoid accidental pressing of the Del, End, and PgDn buttons.
Unlike the front panel of the case, the bottom side of the Patriot Viper V765 keyboard is made of plastic. In the center, there is a sticker with the name of the device model.
The wrist rest of the Patriot Viper V765 is removable. It is attached to the keyboard unit with magnets. The body of this stand is made of plastic, and the contact area is made of rubberized material. It is worth noting that this surface easily collects dust and dirt.
The Patriot Viper V765 uses a USB connector to connect to a computer. The keyboard cable is equipped with a ferrite filter and hidden in a dense braid. The cable length is 1.8 meters.

Keycaps and switches
Viper V765 is a classic full-sized keyboard with a numeric keypad. Both Shift keys are longer than I’m used to, but still totally fine. The symbols are laser engraved diagonally, making the letters are slightly larger than your typical keyboard.
There are no chips or irregularities. It is worth noting that in order not to damage the paint, it is necessary to remove the keycaps as carefully as possible.
All large keys have stabilizers. There are no complaints about the quality of their performance. Pressing is clearly fixed, even if you press on the very edge. You will please with the complete absence of clanging with a light touch to the keycap.
The keyboard has Kailh Red switches. The pressure is soft, and the move is smooth. The stroke between the activation and deactivation points is little. It is a plus for a gaming keyboard. A 50 million click life should not be a problem, even for overly active games that require a massive number of clicks.
RGB backlight
The RGB backlighting of the Patriot Viper V765 is a strong point of this mechanical keyboard. The manufacturer has done a great job of implementing the effects, thanks to which the Patriot Viper V765 shines with bright and saturated colors.
In addition to the standard glow of characters, the manufacturer has provided the keyboard with two more stripes on the sides, which are configured separately. Also, as mentioned above, the color of the metal plate is chosen very well. It reflects the glow well and enhances it. The keyboard looks, even in daylight, just fine. And at night, the backlight is fully revealed. The quality of its performance also cannot be faulted. Brightness and uniformity are pretty decent.
There are both static and many other Modes. The sidebands can also operate in several Modes. Once again, I would like to note that you can control the backlight without having to install extra software (using programmed keys).

Functionality
The Patriot Viper V765 has its own software, but you can configure it without it through hardware keyboard shortcuts. The scroll wheel controls the sound volume. Clicking on it turns off the sound completely. The four buttons above the function keys are responsible for the next, play/pause, previous, and stop track commands. Everything else is done through combinations with the Fn button.
Performance
Viper V765 overall puts its best foot forward. Like other keyboards with a classic layout and no additional key blocks, the device requires only a short time to get used to it. It is enough to work for a few hours, and you completely forget that you are using a new device. There are no false clicks or misses. All keys to which additional functions are assigned are clearly labeled.
I would especially like to note the quality of the stabilizers on the large keys. They do their job perfectly and are completely silent. Their implementation can be the envy of even some significantly more expensive keyboards. There is no clang at all. I noticed that the typing was pretty consistent, even if you press on the very edge of the keycap. There are no complaints about the switches either.
The software is quite simple and not overloaded with unnecessary features. The interface is clean and clear, leaving me with no complaints against it.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I can say that the Viper V765 is a uniquely successful gaming keyboard that will definitely find its customers. The manufacturer managed to fit decent functionality, stylish appearance, and high-quality backlighting into a very reasonable price tag, which will undoubtedly interest a large number of not only gamers but also simply lovers of high-quality peripherals.
